Happy August!

Hope that Summer has been treating you well and you’ve been enjoying some time with friends and family.  There are only a few weeks left of this beautiful season (disappointing, I know), but football season is fast approaching and along with the 2013 harvest on our end.  It’s an exciting time for us at Labor Wines, as we’re also going to be bottling our 2012 Pinot Noir in a few weeks (early, I know, but that’s what happens when you have a warm vintage in Oregon), before we let it sleep in the bottle until next April/May for you to enjoy in 2014.

 

Another small, but important piece of information for Labor is that we are now accepting credit cards!  For now we are going to be taking Visa and Mastercard.

 

Many of you have purchased wine from us previously, but I’m not sure if you’ve had our two more recent releases, the 2011 Pinot Noir and the 2012 Riesling.  I would love to have you all taste out these wines and share them with you friends.  Let me know if I can arrange shipping and set you up with some new bottles.

Our Pinot Noir on Stage!

 

Well friends, a few days ago we were notified that a wine writer and reviewer in Memphis, TennesseeFrederic Koppel of BiggerThanYourHead.net, had a chance to sample our Pinot Noirs from the 2009 & 2010 vintages.  Knowing that we have distribution in his city and Memphis has an educated wine population and culture, we were very curious to hear what he had to say.  Let me tell you, his review was fantastic!

 

I’ve attached a link to his post on the wines here, but to give you a brief idea, on the 2009 he says,

 

“In the mouth, the wine is a finely shaped amalgam of lightly sanded woody spices, dusty graphite, elusive tannins and clean, vibrant acidity, all working in concord with delicately spiced and macerated black and red fruit flavors. The finish is well-knit, sinewy, spicy.”

 

On the 2010, he notes,

 

“The ’10 is a bit spicier than the ’09, but it maintains, at all costs, a spirit of spareness and elegance that makes it easy to drink for its winsome fruity qualities yet demanding for its dry, rigorous character.”

 

 

As well, Mr. Koeppel rated both wines “excellent!”  This is something that we are thrilled to share with each of you and a very happy day for us at Labor Wines as well.  Stay tuned for the upcoming Spring release of our 2011 Pinot Noir and a cool surprise on the white wine front as well!

EatDrink Tasting at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas

This past Saturday afternoon, June 23rd we had a chance to visit with some of our favorite partners here in Las Vegas, The Cosmopolitan Hotel and conduct a tasting in their EatDrink retail shop.  The hotel has been a supporter of ours since the beginning, pouring the Pinot Noir at their stylish and hip, Vesper Bar along with being served at Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill and Comme Ca.  With the new vintages, they now have both our Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc at EatDrink, a really cool gourmet store, featuring wines, cheeses and retail items.

 

 

The shop had Corey spend the afternoon pouring both of the wines, tasting out some of their regulars and a great collection of some of our Las Vegas supporters.  Check out photos of the event here to see everyone having a great time!  EatDrink’s staff has already invited us back to host another tasting later this Summer and they are thrilled to be partners with us at Labor Wines.

 

 

In addition to the next tasting with them, we’ll be visiting with the great folks over at Khoury’s Fine Wine & Spirits in Las Vegas coming up in July – date to be determined, so we will let you all know for sure soon!  We’re also planning a visit to New York City later this Summer, in August and hopefully will be tasting some of our back East friends then too.

New Release Wines!

 

It’s time for some wine!  After selling out of our first vintage (2009 Pinot Noir) extremely quickly, to which we can’t thank each and every one of you enough, we are thrilled to announce the release of TWO wines – both from the Willamette Valley.  Our first white wine, the 2011 Pinot Blanc, is now ready for you to taste and try, and our 2010 Pinot Noir, has just been labeled and is jumping out of the bottle!

 

The Pinot Blanc is a bright, flavorful white – indicative of the vintage, with great balanced acids and flavors of lemon and Granny Smith apple, along with litchi and Asian pear.  All of the fruit comes from the Yamhill Carlton and Chehalem Mountains AVA’s and we believe that this varietal is a natural pairing for its sibling, Pinot Noir, and flavor-wise is a great complement.   The Pinot Blanc is a great wine to pair with any type of cuisine as it is extremely versatile, especially Asian flavors as it cuts through the spice or just to sip while on your patio in the backyard.  This wine is available to you at $16.00 a bottle, $192.00 a case, plus shipping.

 

Our Pinot Noir is an extremely balanced wine from the 2010 harvest, with lower sugars and structured acid.  The nose has a slight smokiness to it with red and dark fruits coming through the palate, finishing with some chocolate and plum.  Serve with oysters, roast chicken and halibut, or just have a glass with friends.  The Pinot Noir is $25.00 a bottle, $300.00 a case plus shipping.
